I've seen plenty of laptops called “AI PCs” over the last two years.
Most of them are impressive in one very specific way: they have an NPU.
But if you actually want to run large AI models locally, that is not the specification I would look at first.

That does not mean every 300B model will run at a useful speed, nor does it mean every configuration can achieve the same result.
Model architecture, quantization, context length, software runtime and memory allocation all matter.

HP increased the maximum power envelope from 55W on the previous ZBook Ultra G1a to 100W on the new G3a.

If you need an HP AI laptop before October, the previous-generation ZBook Ultra G1a 14 is still highly relevant.
HP offers configurations with the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 and up to 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory. HP specifically markets it for local LLM workloads and says users can assign memory to the GPU for graphics-heavy projects. [HP]
For a much more conventional business laptop, the HP EliteBook X G2i is another current 2026 option. HP lists Intel Core Ultra processors, up to 64GB LPDDR5X memory and NPUs rated at up to 50 TOPS. [HP]
That makes it a different kind of AI laptop: focused on mobile productivity, collaboration and efficient on-device AI rather than huge local LLMs.
HP's Other AI Laptop Worth Watching
The HP OmniBook Ultra 14 is aimed at premium everyday users who want modern AI acceleration without buying a workstation.
HP's 2026 OmniBook Ultra 14 configurations include Intel Core Ultra processors with Intel AI Boost reaching 50 NPU TOPS. HP's specifications list the model's February 2026 release and multiple processor options. [HP]
It is important not to confuse this machine with the ZBook Ultra.

It is the difference between an NPU and a large-model workstation.
