Lenovo's Tiny $679 Mini PC Has 47-TOPS AI: But There's a Catch
I have a weakness for tiny desktop PCs because they force manufacturers to answer a deceptively hard question: how much computer can you actually squeeze into a box that barely takes up any desk space?
Lenovo's answer is unusually interesting.
The Yoga Mini is a tiny cylindrical Windows PC with Intel's Panther Lake platform, a dedicated NPU and a generous collection of ports.
And right now, the base configuration has dropped from $999.99 to $679.99 at Best Buy.
That's a $320 discount.
But there is one specification I would check before placing the order.
Lenovo's Yoga Mini packs an Intel Panther Lake processor, dedicated NPU and extensive connectivity into a 0.65-liter cylindrical aluminum chassis.
What Is the Lenovo Yoga Mini?
The Yoga Mini is Lenovo's compact Windows desktop designed to deliver a surprisingly complete PC experience from a very small footprint.
The chassis measures about 5.12 x 5.12 x 1.91 inches and uses a cylindrical aluminum design. Lenovo lists the system at roughly 600 grams depending on configuration.
That puts it in the same general physical category as Apple's Mac mini, but Lenovo is taking a very different hardware approach.
The discounted model uses an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 from the Panther Lake generation, with eight cores and eight threads, up to 4.5GHz on its performance cores and a 47-TOPS NPU.
The $679.99 Deal Is the Part You Need to Look At
Notebookcheck reported on September 16 that Best Buy had cut the Yoga Mini's price by $320.
Best Buy's current listing still shows the same configuration at $679.99, versus a $999.99 comparable value.
Deals can change without notice, so treat the $679.99 figure as the price checked for this article rather than a permanent MSRP.
Inside the Tiny Box Is Intel Panther Lake
The Core Ultra 5 325 is not the most powerful Panther Lake chip Lenovo offers in the Yoga Mini.
It is the entry-level processor option, with four performance cores and four low-power efficiency cores, 12MB of Intel Smart Cache and integrated Intel graphics.
The important addition for today's AI-focused PCs is the NPU.
Lenovo's official specification sheet rates the Core Ultra 5 325's NPU at up to 47 TOPS.
What the $679.99 configuration includes
- CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 325, 8 cores and 8 threads.
- Memory: 16GB LPDDR5X-8533, soldered and not upgradeable.
- Storage: 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
- AI: Up to 47 TOPS NPU performance.
- Networking: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and 2.5Gb Ethernet.
- Displays: Support for up to four independent displays through the available video outputs.
That 47-TOPS NPU Does Not Mean 47-TOPS AI Everywhere
This is an important distinction that gets lost in AI-PC marketing.
TOPS is a theoretical measure of AI compute throughput under specified conditions. It does not tell you how fast a particular large language model will run or whether every application will use the NPU.
The Core Ultra 5 325 is nevertheless a Copilot+ class processor, and the NPU is designed to accelerate supported local AI features.
For normal Windows applications, web browsing, office work and development, the CPU remains just as important.
Here Is Where the Yoga Mini Beats Its Size
The port selection is unusually strong for such a small system.
Lenovo provides two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-C 10Gbps ports, USB-A, HDMI 2.1 and 2.5Gb Ethernet.
One of the USB-C ports also supports USB Power Delivery input.
The system can therefore connect to fast external storage, multiple displays, wired networking and a conventional collection of peripherals without immediately needing a docking station.
The overlooked connectivity advantage
- Thunderbolt 4: Up to 40Gbps theoretical bandwidth for compatible peripherals.
- 2.5Gb Ethernet: Useful for local servers, NAS systems and large file transfers.
- HDMI 2.1: Direct display connectivity without consuming one of the Thunderbolt ports.
- Four-display support: Lenovo lists support for up to four independent displays using the onboard outputs.
The Memory Catch Is More Important Than It Looks
Here's the specification I would think about before buying the discounted model.
The 16GB RAM is soldered.
You cannot open the case later and replace the memory with 32GB.
For everyday office work, web browsing, coding, media consumption and ordinary multitasking, 16GB can be perfectly reasonable.
For heavier local AI work, virtual machines or unusually demanding multitasking, the fixed memory ceiling becomes a much more significant limitation.
My buying rule for this deal
Buy the $679.99 model because you need a compact general-purpose Windows desktop, not because the “47 TOPS” label suggests it will replace a serious local-AI workstation.
Yoga Mini vs M6 Mac mini
The comparison becomes particularly interesting because Apple's M6 Mac mini currently starts at $899 with 16GB memory and 256GB storage.
That puts the discounted Lenovo $219.01 below Apple's entry price while providing twice the listed internal storage and a very different Windows hardware ecosystem.
| Feature | Lenovo Yoga Mini | M6 Mac mini |
|---|---|---|
| Current starting price | $679.99 sale | $899 |
| Memory | 16GB soldered | 16GB unified |
| Storage | 512GB SSD | 256GB SSD |
| AI hardware | Up to 47 TOPS NPU | Apple Neural Engine + M6 GPU AI hardware |
| Operating system | Windows 11 | macOS |
This is not a benchmark winner table. The two machines use completely different processors, operating systems and software ecosystems.
The useful takeaway is that the Yoga Mini's discounted price makes it an unusually inexpensive way into a premium-looking, AI-capable tiny desktop.
The Yoga Mini Is Not Just a Bare Mini PC
Lenovo has added several features that are easy to overlook.
The unit includes a built-in fingerprint reader, integrated microphones and a speaker. Lenovo also uses Wi-Fi sensing for presence detection and Adaptive Lighting for certain notifications and interactions.
The top surface can also serve as part of the device's interaction system, rather than being nothing more than a passive metal enclosure.
Those additions help explain why Lenovo positioned the Yoga Mini as part of the premium Yoga family rather than as a generic office mini PC.
Steve Jobs' “Bicycle for the Mind” Idea Fits This Machine
— Steve Jobs, 1990 interview for Memory & Imagination
The quote is especially appropriate for tiny computers.
The Yoga Mini is not impressive because of its physical size. The interesting part is how much functionality survives after the desktop itself shrinks to roughly 0.65 liters.
That is the appeal of this entire mini-PC category.

Lenovo Yoga Mini Pros and Cons
Why It Stands Out
- $679.99 current sale price
- Extremely compact 0.65L-class design
- Intel Panther Lake processor
- Up to 47 TOPS NPU
- 512GB SSD
- Dual Thunderbolt 4
- 2.5Gb Ethernet
- Four-display support
What to Think About
- 16GB RAM cannot be upgraded
- Integrated graphics are not designed for high-end gaming
- NPU TOPS does not equal real-world AI application performance
- Sale price can change
- Keyboard and monitor are separate purchases
The Overlooked Reason to Buy It
The strongest argument for this particular deal is not the NPU.
It is the combination of size, ports, storage and price.
At $679.99, you are getting a complete Windows desktop with 16GB of fast memory and 512GB of SSD storage in a machine small enough to disappear behind a monitor.
That makes it useful for a home office, developer desk, media machine, digital signage setup or secondary workstation.
One thing I would not do
Do not buy the Yoga Mini expecting the integrated graphics to behave like a dedicated gaming GPU. Lenovo's more expensive Core Ultra X7 358H configuration is the model with Intel Arc B390 graphics and substantially higher graphics performance.

The M6 Mac mini is the obvious compact-desktop alternative for users who prefer macOS and Apple's silicon ecosystem. The current entry configuration starts at $899 with 16GB memory and 256GB storage.
Check Mac mini on Amazon →Is the $679 Lenovo Yoga Mini Worth It?
At the current $679.99 price, the Yoga Mini becomes much easier to understand.
It is not a replacement for every workstation, and the 16GB soldered memory means it is not the configuration I would choose for ambitious local AI experimentation.
But as a tiny Windows desktop, the combination is compelling: Panther Lake, 512GB storage, fast connectivity, 2.5Gb Ethernet, four-display support and a 0.65-liter chassis.
And there is a simple reason the $320 discount matters.
It moves the Yoga Mini into a price range where its unusual design becomes an advantage rather than a luxury.
The catch is easy to understand.
Just make sure 16GB is enough for the life you expect this computer to have.
